SUFFOLK HELP IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

Waveney  SHIMS

Ricky's Profile

My name is Ricky, I am twenty four years old. I was diagnosed with MS when I was twenty. Before I was introduced to SHIMS I had only one or two family members who would help me just enough to get by. I became lonely and lost my confidence.

I was taken to a SHIMS meeting by my case worker, I didn't want to go at first because it was something new to me and I found it difficult to speak and mix with people I didn't know. People in the group started speaking to me, putting me at ease, we talked about football and going on trips, which was something I hadn't done for a long time.

These people became my friends and I don't feel alone anymore. My friends at SHIMS have noticed a change in me, I find it easier to talk, and I am getting my confidence back.

There is always a friend on the end of the phone who I can share my problems with. I am so glad I went to my first SHIMS meeting, it is like a family to me now.

Ricky was the 2005 winner of the Waveney SHIMS ten-pin bowling competition.
